Very, very interesting reading! Not only for kiwis! It's really funny cause I hear a lot of these myths all the time. Like "New Zealand has 3 million people and 60 million sheep"

Optimism for the Employment Market in 2011
Although there's optimism and unemployment rates are expected to lower in 2011, "the jobs market remains tough, and possibly even tougher than we thought heading into 2011".

Linking work or liking to work? Or neither??
Happy Monday everyone!
Today I'm posting a light-hearted article that discusses 3 working categories. I completely agree when the author says: "In my experience, work can sometimes be great. Other times, it really sucks. But one thing’s for sure: not working sucks more."
Under what category does your current job fall??
Wednesday, December 15, 2010
I don't agree 100% with the article, however it does discuss some very good points: Unfortunately the print newspaper days are slowly coming to an end, and employers are increasingly using online job boards to attract candidates. Having said that, candidates are feeling more and more frustrated with the impersonal response (or no response at all!) they are getting, they're becoming "application number 105". My advice is be proactive, pick up the phone, knock on doors! And yes, do revise your CV to include detail, but keep it succinct. We have great CV writing tips in our website, check them out!
As a candidate, where do you think you'll look for jobs in the future? If the trend is newspapers dying and job boards been too overcrowded, where would you go?
As a manager, what do you think the trend will be? Candidates coming through your own website to find jobs?
I would love to hear you thoughts on this!

Seek Employment Indicators, November 2010
Hey everyone!
Seek compiles this report every month, I thought to post it here as it provides quite good insights into the current employment market in NZ.

Be flexible!!!
In a worldwide context of super accessible information, flexibility is paramount! If you get too specialised, you may narrow your job options! Been flexible to learn and / or knowing a lot about a lot of things is the key to success on higher positions. Although the significance of the research which the article draws from maybe arguable, it's message and conclusion are relevant!

I know, it is that time of the year... We're all looking back into what we've accomplished in 2010 and thinking about New Years resolution for 2011. This article talks about writing a prospective performance review. I think it's a good idea, even if you don't have to go through a formal Annual Performance Review at work. It's useful for goal setting and focusing. And also, you can always use it at the end of next year to balance up goals and accomplishments!

Although this is an American example, the same can be applied to NZ. Kiwis are highly entrepreneurial and to overcome this economic recession, we need “to create a shift from a résumé-driven society to one where people create their own jobs”.

Happy Monday everyone! I thought this was an interesting question as there is always lots of people on both sides of this fence! So what IS worth more: school of life or university?

Legalities to bare in mind during the Silly Season
I'm posting 3 articles I read this morning (thanks to Kensington and Swan for their fantastic newsletter!) about a few legalities to bare in mind during the Silly Season. Employers and employees should be aware of their duties and rights so everyone can enjoy themselves!

Social Media and Business
We're totally sold on the benefits of Social Media for businesses and definitely convinced they're not exclusive to "cool brands".

Xmas Function
Yup, frugality seems to be the theme for most companies' Xmas parties (with some exceptions of course!). Everyone felt the pinch of the economic recession throughout 2010. We're having a quiet function at the bosses' house, with beautiful food and drinks. It's all about celebrating staff's hard work and having a laugh ...in the end of the day isn't it?

Socia Media Regulation
It's very important to keep Social Media regulation in mind, when using it for Recruitment purposes. This article, although from an Australian site, pinpoint relevant Dos and Don'ts.
Including your photos on Resumes
2 questions this article posed: Do you believe this research, and, if so, are jealous women really the cause? How do you respond when you get a resume with a photo attached?
